Inappropriate Sexual Behaviours after ABI

25 November 2021

Events Group News

Disorders of sexual function are relatively common after ABI but it is often inappropriate sexual behaviours that present as the most challenging and cause the most distress to family, friends and carers. It is recognised that such behaviours do not occur because the person has an increased sexual drive but occur because they have lost the ability to inhibit their behaviour and have decreased insight/awareness of their behaviour and a lack of understanding of usual social and interpersonal conventions.

This webinar covers the different causes of sexually inappropriate behaviours, identify strategies for establishing boundaries between client and carer, define strategies for working with clients around social skills and effective ways for responding to inappropriate sexual behaviours. It will also briefly discuss our own perceptions around sexuality and the impact of this on our dealing with those who present with sexual behaviours that challenge.
